The worldwide coronavirus pandemic of 2020 has created significant change for the average American, and it’s also changed the lives of people around the world. Normal activities have been postponed, and day-to-day schedules have been completely disrupted.
If you’re thinking about having some work done on your home or are interested in starting a remodeling project, you may wonder whether the coronavirus may prevent you from getting a new kitchen, getting your roof replaced, or having any other work done on your home.
According to the Indiana government, several trades that operate as part or within home remodeling businesses are “critical trades” that are allowed to conduct work despite the ever-changing coronavirus pandemic and its necessary restrictions on travel and daily activities.
The Indiana government shares that critical trades include:
“Building, construction, and other trades, including plumbers, electricians, exterminators, operating engineers, cleaning and janitorial staff for commercial and governmental properties, security staff, HVAC, painting, moving and relocation services, and other service providers who provide services necessary to maintaining the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences, Essential Activities, and Essential Businesses and Operations.”
Individuals working in critical trades will follow recommended guidelines for social distancing and engaging in activities like wearing face masks. One of the fortunate aspects of home remodeling work is that many projects may be completed without any significant contact between the homeowner and the remodeling crew.
Scheduling Home Remodeling During Social Distancing
The pandemic and its related restrictions are always changing, and many of the government’s rules on business openings and activities that might take place in entertainment venues and restaurants are changing each month.
A recent article from the Chicago Sun-Times indicates that some venues around the state will need to continue operating with capacity limits to slow the possible spread of the virus in crowded areas. For most homeowners, scheduling home improvement projects doesn’t carry any requirement for large crowds.
The article shared further:
“Holcomb said he believed it was better to pause Indiana’s reopening rather than possibly face needing to backtrack later.”
In fact, some homeowners may be able to significantly limit their interaction with their construction crews by having one professional at a time work on the home. In some instances, work is done by each type of professional in a sequenced schedule where an electrician might complete work over a few days with a crew that may complete drywall work coming in the next week.
Is Home Remodeling Safe During the Coronavirus?
The biggest question for many homeowners is likely whether they can have their home remodeling project completed without putting themselves and their families at risk during the process. The good news is that careful scheduling can help homeowners and their home remodeling professionals reach the conclusions in a safe manner.
