A deck or balcony off a second floor bedroom can be neat! But what do you do if the deck is rarely used or not of a useable size?
Thankfully, these Carmel Indiana homeowner’s have an Arts and Crafts inspired home which lent itself to doing something interesting. Given the fact of having more than ample deck space below, the chose to remove the second floor deck off their master bedroom altogether.

Along with the upper level deck, the existing sliding patio door in the master bedroom was also removed. In place of the door, a large box window was installed. The box window incorporates a 4-wide casement window unit, with custom grill pattern to match the existing windows in the house that were installed during phase I of the couple’s many remodel projects.

In summary, the couple chose to eliminate an unused deck. However, they added visual appeal which blends with the existing architecture. They also increased the amount of natural light into their second floor master bedroom. But, the biggest win was they still get to enjoy their backyard lake view!
