Second, if you have some built-up equity and if you intend on staying in the home long term, then you should explore adding an addition. However, sometimes it makes sense to move into a bigger home. We recommend looking out on the market for homes similar to what you are looking for and compare that to the value of your existing home, available equity and how much an addition or other improvements will cost.
